Slovakia is among the cheapest EU members

But it's also the most expensive among Visegrad Group members.

Even though it may not seem so, considering the prices of living, Slovakia is the seventh cheapest country in the EU, Eurostat data from the European Union’s (EU) statistics office, which was obtained from a survey by Poštová Banka analysts, suggests.

However, it is also the most expensive among the Visegrad Group (Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary). The biggest difference is between Slovakia and Poland at 19 percent (and 28 percent for food), the Sme daily wrote.

Bulgaria is the cheapest EU member – around 30 percent cheaper than Slovakia – and thus, a holiday there would also be the cheapest, as hotels and restaurants are 40 percent cheaper and clothes and shoes 25 percent cheaper, Lucia Dovalová, Poštová Banka analyst, told Sme. Everything except for food is cheaper there.

Croatia seems to be generally cheaper, too, the daily reported, as it has cheaper costs of living. The food and drinks are more expensive than Slovakia, though, and this may impact Slovak holidaymakers more, Sme wrote.

Shopping would be the cheapest in Turkey, which is not an EU member but was included in the statistics. It would amount to around one half of Slovak expenses, the daily sums up.
