Minimum wage to exceed €500

The government is ready to continue in negotiations over the minimum wage increase in the future.

For the first time in Slovakia’s history, the minimum wage is set to exceed €500. It will increase from the current €480 to €520 next year, according to the regulation signed by Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer) on November 5.

“With this step, we will continue the dynamic increase in the minimum wage, with the aim of raising it so that it will amount to at least 60 percent of the average wage of the national economy,” said Pellegrini, as quoted by the TASR newswire, adding that he hopes that every person in Slovakia will, at the very least, be earning the minimum wage.

Since the Slovak economy is currently thriving, the government is also ready to continue negotiations over the minimum wage increase with social partners in the future, TASR wrote.
