Poll: Mistrík would win the presidential race

The AKO agency asked the respondents only about those who have announced their candidacy.

If voters were to choose only from the candidates who have already confirmed they would like to run in next year’s presidential elections, the chances would be somewhat equal for some.

This stems from a poll carried out by the AKO agency between December 6 and 10 on 1,000 respondents for the team of presidential candidate Zuzana Čaputová of Progresívne Slovensko (Progressive Slovakia), the Sme daily reported.

In the first round, Robert Mistrík would win with 16.8 percent votes, followed by Béla Bugár of Most-Híd with 16.2 percent and Štefan Harabin with 12.8 percent.

Milan Krajniak from Sme Rodina (We Are a Family) would come next with 12.3 percent. Čaputová would earn 10.9 percent of votes, finishing in fifth place, Sme wrote.

The absence of candidates from the ruling Smer party and the Slovak National Party (SNS) helped Bugár in the poll, Václav Hřích of AKO said. Moreover, the fact that Bugár is a representative of the government coalition played a role.

The second poll came one hour later

The AKO agency published this poll only one hour after the first poll was published, Sme reported.

The previous poll, carried out between December 3 and 4 on 1,000 respondents also included the candidates of Smer, SNS and the Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO), even though they have not announced their candidacy yet.

Mistrík would again come first with 14.8 percent of votes, followed by Harabin with 10 percent. Bugár would place third with 9.8 percent.

The chances of Richard Raši, a deputy prime minister for investments and informatisation of Smer, becoming president are quite low right now. He would come fifth with 8.5 percent. Raši is considered a possible alternative if Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák decides not to run for president, Sme wrote.

SNS chair Andrej Danko would be ahead of Raši with 8.8 percent, the poll suggests.

Čaputová would finish in eighth place with 6.6 percent, Sme wrote.
