Bratislava is to have a new square: Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk Square will be situated in front of the building of the Slovak National Museum. The statue of the first Czechoslovak president and the monument of Czechoslovak statehood also stand here.
Municipal deputies voted for the establishment of the square at the municipality gathering, the Denník N daily reported. The square of T. G. Masaryk will be a self-standing part of the Vajanského Nábrežie riverbank. It will come into being in the middle of June.

Old Town Councillor Peter Osuský was one of the 10 people who submitted the proposal to re-name the public space back in May 2018. The Czech Republic and Slovakia celebrated its centenary last year.
Osuský told the Sme daily at the time that it would be appropriate that Bratislava has a space named after president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.
