President Andrej Kiska arrived at the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) on March 20 to testify in the case of alleged blackmail and intimidation by Smer chair Robert Fico.

The police began to investigate the case at the end of February.

“It was a regular hearing, in which the president described meetings with relevant people,” said the president's lawyer, Daniel Lipšic, as quoted by the TASR newswire. “We attached to it further evidence to confirm the president's testimony.”

It is said that Fico told the president, via Most-Híd chair Béla Bugár, that if he did not appoint him a Constitutional Court judge, he would expose the accounting documents of his KTAG company, which Kiska co-owns with his brother.

As soon as it was clear that Kiska would never appoint Fico as the Constitutional Court judge and Fico withdrew from the election, the prosecution against the manager of the KTAG began. The president called it revenge.

“I consider this action purposeful because a charge was brought only a day after Robert Fico withdrew,” said Lipšic, as quoted by the SITA newswire.

Smer head is ready to testify

PM Peter Pellegrini (Smer) and Bugár are believed to know about Fico's intimidation of Kiska. They have not denied the meetings and talks with the president, but they have rejected the claim concerning Fico's threats. Bugár allegedly called Kiska to tell him that Fico wanted to work at the Constitutional Court, the Sme daily wrote.

Fico is ready to testify as soon as possible in the case of the reported intimidation of the president. Kiska lied regarding the financing of his presidential campaign, Fico reiterated, as reported by Sme.
