Kunsthalle Bratislava must move despite objections

Bratislava's art gallery has fallen victim to the Culture Ministry's decision to establish a culture space in the current Kunsthalle location.

20 years. That is the length of time during which Slovak artists fought for Kunsthalle (Art Gallery) to be opened in Bratislava. The art gallery is today managed by the Slovak National Gallery (SNG) and housed in the premises of the National Culture Centre (NOC), both under the administration of the Culture Ministry.

After five years of the art gallery's existence, being under the Culture Ministry turned out to be an impediment to the department.

The Culture Ministry needs to spend €260 million on the creative industry from European funds, although a single euro has not been allocated to any project to date.

Thus, the ministry seeks to establish and move the Creative Hub Bratislava (Kreatívne centrum Bratislava) into the current premises of Kunsthalle.

Preparations for the Creative Hub have begun despite the fact that the Culture Ministry has not yet announced a call to apply for the money on these creative hubs.
