Foreigners can now book an appointment at the Foreigners' Police online. The system can be used for submitting an application on granting or prolonging a residence permit in Slovakia at a respective department of the Foreigners' Police, the Interior Ministry informed on its website.

The police have taken this step to eliminate the long queues, Martina
Matuškovičová of the Office of the Border and Alien Police informed in a Facebook video.

The queues have been the main problem many foreigners have pointed out for years, especially in Bratislava.

The online booking system runs at 12 Foreigners' Police departments.

How does the system work?

Foreigners can make an online appointment via a form on the Interior Ministry's website.

After clicking on the respective police department in the white box, foreigners will be asked to fill in some personal details and the type of application.

After sending the filled form, they will receive confirmation email and subsequently a date and time scheduled for an appointment.

“We would like to remind foreigners to choose a date and time at the Foreigners' Police department corresponding to your place of stay,” the ministry pointed out.

Booking is possible at maximum one month in advance.

If the confirmation email is not delivered within 14 days, foreigners should ask for a new booking date.

“In the event of failure to appear at the given date and time, the application will not be processed,” the ministry underlined on its website.

Those with appointments will have priority

Foreigners must also check until when their residence permit is valid. In the case of an expired residence permit, they will not be able to submit the request via the online booking system, the police warned.

Moreover, appointments may not be available in the system if capacity has already been filled.

Foreigners can still come to the Foreigners' Police departments in person and without booking an appointment in advance.

Yet, those with appointments made online will be served first, the ministry warned.
