The unusual, natural formation of Čertova Skala (Devil’s Rock), unique to central Europe, is located in the natural reservation of Boky, in the cadastre of Budča village.

Čertova Skala is a flattened volcanic rock at the edge of a very steep rocky reef. The stone, weighing in at 17 tonnes with a volume of about 5 cubic metres, is connected to its base only by a very small area.

It may seem unstable, but the connection is strong, and geologists claim that we do not have to worry about it breaking in the upcoming centuries, the TASR newswire reported.

People in the past thought there was something supernatural about the rock, which is why they named it after the devil.
