Slovakia has one of the worst climate plans in the EU. The only country with a worse result is Slovenia.

This stems from the evaluation by the experts from the European Climate Foundation, who focused on whether the countries are heading towards zero emissions.

The Slovak plan was prepared by the Economic Ministry. It received minus points because the ministry did not invite the wider public, expert organisations, or the third sector to work on it, the Denník N daily reported.

As a result, Slovakia received only 12.5 points out of 100.

Spain received the highest score, gaining 52.4 points.

“The conclusion is that there is much work to be done: this assessment is a clear call to the member states to improve their plans by the end of the year when final drafts are to be submitted,” the authors wrote in the study. “It is also a call on the European Commission to make clear and unambiguous recommendations to the member states by June, in line with the EU 2030 package and the net-zero Emissions objective for 2050.”
