People in Slovakia have been experiencing extremely hot days for some time now. Paramedics have already had to help 74 patients who collapsed due to the heatwaves that struck the country at the beginning of this week, the TASR newswire reported.

Temperatures will also maintain high levels in the following days, particularly from June 12 to June 14. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has thus issued weather warnings for most regions in Slovakia.

People across Slovakia, apart from the Žilina Region, should prepare for temperatures as high as 33 degrees Celsius on June 12. The first-level warning is in place from 15:00 until 17:00.

The situation will worsen on June 13 and 14 in south-west and south-east Slovakia, where the temperature is expected to attain 35 degrees Celsius.

As a result, SHMÚ has issued a second-level weather warning for these areas for the afternoon hours on June 13. The first level warnings will remain in place in other regions of Slovakia.

In addition, the temperature is supposed to climb to 36 degrees Celsius the following day, which is why SHMÚ has expanded the list of regions where second-level warnings against high temperatures are in place.

Saturday will not bring relief

The hot weather is expected to worsen on June 15 and heat waves will spread from southern Slovakia to the north, warns the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute.

The waves will also affect counties like Krupina, Revúca and Rožňava in southern Slovakia, Skalica, Senica and Topoľčany in western Slovakia and Košice, Vranov nad Topľou and Michalovce in eastern Slovakia. The expected temperatures here are range from 35 and 36 Celsius degrees between 14:00 and 18:00.

The more northern parts of Slovakia, such as Trenčín, Zvolen, Detva, Ilava, Prešov, Humenné and Levoča, will face temperatures between 33 and 35 Celsius degrees in the afternoon.

Only the Žilina region did not receive any meteorological warnings on June 15.
