Another recent poll suggests that the emerging party of departing President Andrej Kiska would win seats in the national parliament. After the AKO poll was published earlier this week, the poll carried out by Focus suggests that the new party has a chance to pass the 5-percent threshold.

If the general election took place in June, Kiska's party would win the support of 6.2 percent of respondents of the Focus poll.

The ruling Smer is still in first place with 19.5 percent, which is an increase of 0.5 percent compared to April, the Sme daily reported.

The poll was conducted from June 1 to June 11, 2019, on 1,017 respondents.

Progressive Slovakia and Spolu form a coalition

The non-parliamentary Progressive Slovakia (PS) and Spolu parties, meanwhile, have announced that they will form a coalition again before the 2020 general election.

“Our responsibility is to cooperate, because only in this way we can defeat Smer,” Spolu chair Miroslav Beblavý wrote on Facebook.

To achieve this goal, they are also relying on their cooperation with Kiska and his new party, Beblavý added.

The Focus poll also suggests increasing support for the coalition. It would win the support of 17.8 percent if Kiska's party does not make it to the parliament. If Kiska succeeded, PS-Spolu would have 15.3 percent.
