The hot summer is in full swing in Slovakia. However, the cold polar air coming from the north has been affecting the weather in the country for several days now.
Following that, meteorologists recorded extremely low temperatures, unusual for the summer, on July 10. Very cold weather hit, in particular, the Prešov Region, as reported by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) on Facebook.
For instance, the temperature in Poprad dropped to -1°C five centimetres above ground level.
The coldest morning
On Wednesday morning, locals even saw ground frost.
“Two metres above the ground, the temperature decreased to 3.7°C in Poprad and 6.3°C in Kamenica nad Cirochou,” SHMÚ added.
