Drivers in Slovakia will be able to buy a new type of highway sticker.

Apart from the current one, valid for one calendar year, one month or 10 days, it will be possible to purchase an e-sticker valid for 365 days as of February 2020, the TASR newswire reported.

The new type of highway sticker will cost €50, said Transport Minister Árpád Érsek (Most-Híd) and Most-Híd MP Irén Sárközy.

The new sticker will, primarily, serve people who buy a car during the year and intend to use highways often, the ministry explained.

The popularity of e-stickers grows

Drivers who want to continue using the annual sticker can still use it for 13 months. However, they will have to renew it in time, the Transport Ministry warned. All e-stickers should be purchased before February.

Although the law concerning stickers falls under the management of the Interior Ministry, Érsek and Sárközy have asked the ministry for permission to come up with changes to the law.

Slovakia has been using e-stickers for three years already, but 2019 was the very first year drivers could purchase them electronically, Érsek told TASR.
