A hard morning awaited the inhabitants of the block of flats on 7 Mukačevská Street in Prešov, who survived the December 6 gas explosion.

They were left without their personal belongings and cannot return to their flats. Moreover, it is possible they will never be allowed to return.

Like a bad dream

They would like to forget the horrors they went through.

“It’s like a bad dream,” said Naďa Mihaľaková (42). A teacher who lived on the seventh floor, Mihaľaková has lost all her things. “I have nothing. I was left with what I had in work. I have my life; that's the most important thing.”

Fortunately, she was not at home when the explosion happened.

“It was horrible,” she described for Korzár. “I was at work when I heard our house was on fire. I ran to the place and saw all those neighbours standing on the balconies when they were evacuating them.”

She has no clue what will happen next.

“I’ve been offered substitute housing for now,” she continued. “We have to report what kind of help we need and we’ll see. But it’s a short-term solution; nobody knows what will happen in the more distant future. It was still smoldering there in the morning, and I don’t even know whether we’ll be allowed to go there.”
