CORRECTION: Conditions for crossing borders change from April 19

Vaccinated people still have to undergo quarantine.

The Slovak Spectator reported earlier that vaccinated people do not have to go into quarantine after crossing the border.

This information was provided by the Public Health Authority (ÚVZ) which determines the rules at the borders. The ÚVZ, however, corrected its statement on April 16, saying that vaccinated people will still have to go into quarantine. We apologise for any inconvenience and can now provide the corrected version.

People who wish to enter Slovakia from Monday, April 19, from 06:00 who have only been in countries of the EU, or in Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein, Switzerland or the UK in the previous 14 days , can do so if they meet the following criteria:

- They have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and in the case of the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna) more than 14 days have passed since their second dose, or in the case of the vector vaccine, AstraZeneca, more than four weeks have passed since their first dose

- They have recovered from Covid-19 and were vaccinated up to 180 days previously with either a vector or an mRNA vaccine and at least 14 days have passed since their first dose

- They have recovered from Covid-19 within the last 180 days ago

Anyone wishing to enter Slovakia is obliged to:

1. register at http://korona.gov.sk/ehranica, at the latest when they are crossing the border, and if asked, must be able to show confirmation that they have registered

2. have confirmation of a negative Covid-19 antigen test no older than 48 hours or of a negative RT-PCR test no older than 72 hours

3. enter into quarantine either at home or at a quarantine facility. The quarantine ends after 14 days if they have no symptoms or after a negative RT-PCR test result has been received. This test can be done at anytime and it is not necessary to wait until the eighth day after returning.

The quarantine requirement for children up to the age of ten is over when the quarantine of the people in their common household is over.

In short, people must either prove they have been vaccinated or that they have recovered from the disease.

Exception for weddings and funerals

The Public Health Authority states that there will be an automatic exemption from quarantine for those who come to Slovakia to get married or to attend the funeral of someone close to them. This also requires proof.

One accompanying person will also have an exemption, requiring a negative antigen test no older than 48 hours or a RT-PCR test no older than 72 hours.

Mandatory quarantine will not apply to people with permanent or temporary residence in Slovakia, who cross the border to visit a foreign embassy accredited to Slovakia, located in the Czech Republic, Hungary or the Republic of Austria. This visit may not exceed 12 hours; in this case, a negative test for COVID-19 is not required.

Conditions for transit through Slovakia should also be easier. "They will be uniform for persons passing through the territory of Slovakia to the country in which they have been granted residence or of which they are a citizen. In other cases, the Ministry of the Interior can permit transit," Daša Račková, the spokesperson stated.
