Second conjoined twin dies

Michal Muller, the surviving brother of the conjoined twins separated in April, died on November 9 at the Children's Faculty Hospital in Bratislava, head surgeon Vladimír Cingel said.

"His condition started to deteriorate in the afternoon, and he gradually collapsed," he said.

The boy's biggest problems were caused by his intestine: it was too short, had a faulty structure and was unable to heal readily.

His twin brother, Marek, died on October 4 from the collapse of his liver, kidneys and brain.

The twins were born in Bratislava in April. They were joined at the lower part of their chests and abdomens and had damage to many organs, some of which were conjoined. They were separated on September 15 at Children's Faculty Hospital in Bratislava.
