Slovakia is an ethnically diverse country. In the last census in 2011, 80 percent of the participants claimed allegiance to Slovak nationality and about 12 percent claimed allegiance to a nationality other than Slovak. The biggest minority is the Hungarian one followed by the Roma and Ruthenians.

  • Hungarian minority: 458,467
  • Roma minority: 105,738
  • Ruthenian minority: 33,482
  • Czech minority: 30,367
  • Ukrainian minority: 7,430
  • German minority: 4,690
  • Moravian minority: 3,286
  • Polish minority: 3,084
  • Russian minority: 1,997
  • Bulgarian minority: 1,051
  • Croatian minority: 1,022
  • Serbian minority: 698
  • Jewish: 631

The census in 2021 should provide the most up-to-date data about national minorities in Slovakia, as people had the possibility to choose more than one nationality.
