THE SLOVAK arm of the German carmaker Volkswagen (VW SK) opened an extended rail distribution centre in Bratislava in mid February. The company has spent €2.8 million on additional rail and other facilities, company spokesperson Vladimír Machalík told the SITA newswire.
VW SK extended its rail distribution centre because the growing production capacity of the plant will increase the number of new cars it transports by rail.
“From now we will dispatch as much as 70 percent of produced cars by cargo trains,” said VW SK chief executive Albrecht Reimold.
