After the recent reconstruction of its airport, the Slovak capital is on course to get another gleaming new passenger gateway. While the prospect of a new main railway station remains as distant as ever, preparations are now under way to build a brand new bus station. The investor, HB Reavis, plans to replace the existing bus station at Mlynské Nivy, which dates from the 1970s, with a modern bus terminal-cum-shopping centre. As the firm waits for all the necessary construction permits, it is focusing on preparatory work including the adaptation of a nearby shopping centre to act as a temporary bus station.
“The aim is, along with modernisation of the existing traffic junction, to build here a new social hub and a representative gateway to the capital that can simultaneously cater comfortably to all visitors, passengers, employees of the new Bratislava business zone, citizens from neighbouring residential zones and typical shoppers,” Martina Jamrichová, spokesperson for HB Reavis, wrote in a press release.
Combination of station, mall and offices
The new complex, Stanica Nivy, will combine an international bus terminal, a mall, a fresh food market and a 115-metre-tall office tower. The site will cover six hectares and cost an estimated €270 million.
