When does a brewer know its non-alcoholic beer is a success?
When it’s served to customers and they complain they’ve been given an alcoholic beer by mistake. Matúš Kozina, head of sales and operations at the Nilio craft brewery in Liptovský Mikuláš, says this is not unusual when people first drink his company’s craft beers.
“Our goal is to treat all beer lovers to a wholesome drinking experience without the negative influence of alcohol,” he told The Slovak Spectator.
How it started
The idea of founding a craft brewery producing non-alcoholic beer was born when a group of friends got together one summer a few years ago. All beer lovers, they were lamenting the fact that often at such events, because they were driving or for other reasons, such as they were keen sports players and worried about how alcohol might affect their bodies, they had to drink non-alcoholic beers which, they admitted, they did not like the taste of.
NILIO
Nilio is an abbreviation of Ni for Nicolas (the historical name of the brewers’ city), Li for the Liptov region in which it is located, and O for the zero percent alcohol in its beers.
