THE NUMBER of jobs lost or threatened by mass layoffs in Slovakia during 2009 now exceeds 40,000.
According to the Economy Ministry's updated figures, of the 40,011 jobs which are expected to be lost in planned layoffs since the beginning of this year, 22,522 employees have already been dismissed. Thus 17,489 jobs remain under threat, the SITA newswire wrote.
In Slovakia, companies making mass layoffs must report their plans to labour offices.
Mass layoffs are classed as sackings involving at least 20 employees within a period of 90 days.
