The Poprad-Tatry Airport has surpassed the 100,000-passenger mark, making 2024 the most successful year in the last 50 years. According to chair of the board Patrik Františka, with 20,000 more passengers expected by the end of the year.
So far, the most successful year was 1976 when, when as part of Czechoslovakia the airport dispatched flights to the whole world and served more than 153,000 passengers.
Between 30 to 35 percent of all passengers come from the United Kingdom, This year the increase was noticeable.
The airport, which is owned by the Transport Ministry, is already preparing for the start of the winter season. For the first time, it will be possible to fly from the Poprad airport to an exotic holiday destination even in winter. Starting November 14, the airport will offer charter flights to Hurghada, Egypt, in partnership with the tour operator Solvex. Charter flights to Egypt will be available until the end of April.
Currently, it is possible to fly from Poprad only to London-Luton and London-Stansted.
