Bratislava is taking advantage of fewer people in its streets and is planning on reconstructing and repairing its roads in many localities.
For example, the major reconstruction of Račianska Street that began at the end of March, should be finished by the end of summer break. There will also be restrictions around the primary schools at Vazovova and Mudroňova Streets, a substantial section of Trnavská cesta (Trnavská Road), as well as in certain areas around the capital city.
Major reconstruction
Since the end of March, several sections on Račianska Street in the Nové Mesto borough have already been finished, the only one that remains a short section near the former Palma plant in the vicinity of the Vinohrady railway station. According to Bratislava spokesperson Peter Bubla, the work will be carried out between July 15 - 21.
The work still continues on the intersection of Račianska–Pionierska Streets, as well as on the section between the intersection and nearby Legerského Street in the direction to the centre.
The intersection will be temporarily closed. The section in the direction towards the centre will be closed on the weekend of July 4-7. The section in the direction from the centre will be closed the following weekend of July 12-14.
In the case of the latter section, between July 1-11 and July 15-25, the traffic in the direction from the centre will be redirected in the opposite lane. The section will be completely closed during the weekend July 12-14.
"The repairs are continuing according to schedule, we expect the completion of the work during the summer holidays," says Bubla.
The repairs of Trnavská cesta are ongoing as well. Currently, work on the section on the intersection of Trnavská-Rožňavská Streets is being carried out, followed by the section from the Martinský cintorín cemetery to the nearby railroad crossing on Ivanská cesta (Ivanská Road). The crossing will be closed between July 9 to August 5, the traffic redirected towards a detour.
Only a single lane will be repaired at a time, so passing will be possible in the opposite one. Traffic will be conducted by lights. In addition, bus stops will be temporarily closed and parking in front of the cemetery restricted.
Safer localities
In order to "calm" the traffic and improve the safety on Vazovova and Mudroňova Street where primary schools are located, Bratislava tested a new geometry of nearby intersections with temporary interventions. Now, these will be turned into a permanent one. In order to do so, certain restrictions will be held in these localities.
On Mudroňova Street, only one lane will be available in the first half of July, the traffic conducted by a police officer or lights. In the latter half, Mudroňova Street will not be accessible from nearby Myjavská Street.
On Vazovova Streets, the sidewalks will be continually repaired over July and August.
Outside Bratislava, the road between the villages of Chorvátsky Grob and Bernolákovo will be closed between the beginning of July until mid-August. A detour will be available.
