The amount of gas flowing through a so-called reverse flow from Slovakia to Ukraine has increased recently, according to Pavol Kubík, external communications specialist of Eustream gas pipeline operator.
“The volume of natural gas transported in the direction of Ukraine began to grow significantly in the second half of July,” said Kubík on August 4, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
While Eustream is currently greatly exceeding 30 million cubic metres per day, the total capacity of pipeline is around 40 million cubic metres, Kubík said.
“In the case of the reverse flow, as well as for other cross-connecting points, we are properly meeting the needs of our customers,” Kubík said.
Eustream owns and operates a high-pressure gas transmission system which uses four-five parallel pipelines with a total length of more than 2,332 kilometres and four compressor stations with a total installed capacity of more than 550 megawatts. Its main task is to transport natural gas from Russia to Slovakia and then on to other European markets, TASR wrote.
