Russians allegedly sent weapons via Slovakia without reporting it to the authorities

Slovakia reportedly helped Russia strengthen its military base in Serbia, but the country has not owned up to it, the Sme daily wrote.

Slovakia did not deny that it granted Russian company Aviacon Zitotrans permission to fly through the country. However, the respective authorities claim they did not know about the presence of 10 Russian armoured patrol vehicles onboard.

The transport of military material is banned by the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia following the 2014 annexation of Crimea. Slovakia has supported the sanctions, Sme wrote.

No chance to find out about weapons, ministry says

PM Peter Pellegrini (Smer) has not commented on the case. His press department told Sme to contact the Foreign Affairs Ministry. The ministry recommended contacting the Transport Ministry, which issued the permit.
