CONCERT: THE UNIQUE project Folklore to Jazz crosses borders and merges a traditional folklore band with a jazz quartet, with solos by saxophonist Radovan Tariška. Famous Slovak folk songs arranged in a jazz style will be performed in the Concert Studio of Slovak Radio, Mýtna 1 in Bratislava, on March 13 at 19:00. Part of the concert is the launch of the CD Folklore to Jazz! Performers will include Radovan Tariška (SK, saxophone; see photo), Benito Gonzalez (VE, piano), Essiet Okon Essiet (USA, bass), David Hodek (SK, drums), Tomáš Baroš (CZ, bass), Jozef Fečo (CZ, cimbalom and bass) and Stanislav Palúch (SK, violin). CLASSICAL MUSIC: Tra Venezia e Roma – This concert, co-organised by the Musica Aeterna ensemble (which focuses on performing early music) and the Italian Cultural Institute, uses original instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries plus modern-day replicas to perform works by Vivaldi, Legrenzi, Albioni, Scarlatti and Corelli.

OPERA: Eugene Onegin – Tchaikovsky’s most popular opera, written by Shilovsky and inspired by the verse novel by Pushkin, offers lyrical scenes to grand music. It will be premiered as conducted by Igor Bulla, directed by Anna Osipenko, and featuring singers like Patrícia Solotruková, Elena Shakothina, Šimon Svitok, Ivan Zvarík, Makaryi Pihura and more.

Commemorating the 300th anniversary of his death it will include crafts, workshops, gourmet events, film screenings, the staging of his story, folk music and dance.

EXHIBITION:THE GALÉRIA umelcov Spiša / Spiš Artists’ Gallery celebrated its 25th anniversary late last year and has organised a host of exhibitions to mark the occasion.
