Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up? Not many can claim that their road eventually led them in that direction and fulfilled their childhood dreams.
London-based Slovak video game developer Monika Erősová can claim this. Enchanted by video games in her early childhood, especially by one particular legendary series that led her to take part in several fan projects, she eventually ended up heading the team that recently brought about a modern version of the series to the current audience.
She talked to the Slovak Spectator about her passion for video games, how she got involved in video game development and fulfilled her childhood dreams.

Childhood love
"I always loved video games as a kid! They were part of my life from the very beginning. I still miss my old 486DX where I played many old-school games. I remember this period of my life fondly. Then the PlayStation came, and I switched over to Tomb Raider III, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Gex and Soul Reaver, games which would eventually change my life," Erősová recollects.
Soul Reaver is a 1999 action-adventure gothic fantasy video game that belongs to the Legacy of Kain (LoK) series. Taking inspiration in classical literature, art and culture, the series explores the themes of destiny, free will, morality and redemption.
"The series means everything to me and absolutely changed my life for the better. It inspired me in many ways – it ignited my will for learning English as best as I could and made me want to improve as an artist, all of which eventually led me to become a professional developer," she says, adding that she recently finished the The Art of Soul Reaver published last year.
