BRATISLAVA
THE DANUBIANA museum honours Slovak artists by presenting an exhibition of works by those awarded the Martin Benka Prize in visual arts between 1993 and 2004. The exhibition features a selection of the laureates' finest works in painting, sculpture, graphics and photography. Among the prizewinners showcased is Ester Šimerová-Martinčeková, who introduces elements of the avant-garde into the exhibition. Albín Brunovský, Vladimír Gažovič, Alojz Klimo and Jozef Jankovič are represented by their graphic arts, while paintings and sculptures by Vladimír Kompánek dominate the exhibition's entrance. Other Martin Benka laureates featured are sculptor Andrej Rudavský, painters Rudolf Fila, Agnesa Sigetová and Ivica Krošláková, photographer Martin Martinček and constructivist artist Milan Dobeš. THE POST office comes of age in an exhibition presenting a hundred photos, post cards and other sundry items documenting the development of postal services in Slovakia. Entitled Post Offices in Slovakia in the 20th Century, the exhibition features several antiquated artefacts, such as sorting tables stacked with hundreds of boxes (where workers deposited mail), and a uniform of an airmail post officer.
