THE INTERNATIONAL Film Festival Bratislava turns 13 this autumn. As it becomes a teenager it is also moving, after eight years on the right bank of the Danube, to Cinema City in the Eurovea complex on the left bank. Three screens at Cinema City will be devoted to festival films, but these will also be shown at other venues around the city.
Between November 4 and 9, the festival will present winning movies from the Cannes and Venice film festivals, namely The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick and Faust by Alexander Sokurov. It will then move to Banská Bystrica between November 10 and 12.
Among the Slovak films being screened, the long-awaited new feature film Viditeľný svet (Visible World) by Peter Krištúfek will be premiered.
The Bratislava festival is one of only five in Europe to include a section devoted to Red Westerns; here, this section will be presented by the famous Russian film reviewer Sergei Lavrentiev. Red Westerns were set in “the real Wild West” but were shot in the former Soviet Union or eastern-bloc communist states.
