ALOJZ Kromka, known as Čistič Lojzík (Lojzo the Cleaner), is to remain in jail, decided the Nitra district court on April 23. A reputed killer-for-hire, the Cleaner is suspected by police of murdering Žilina underworld boss Gorilla and his bodyguard, as well as an 18-year-old girl who was killed as a bystander during an attempt on the life of Miroslav Ž. Police also want to question Kromka over his role in the murder of a Poprad policeman, whose severed head was left on the hood of his car, as well as an infamous murder attempt on former Košice underworld figure Róbert Holub in Bratislava's Hotel Danube in 1997, in which Holub's companion died. Holub was taken to hospital in critical conditions, but was then machine-gunned to death by an unknown assailant who scaled the hospital roof and shot his victim through a window.
