A car park for approximately 200 cars is to be built on the site of the former Flóra Hotel close to the Zlaté Piesky recreational area on the outskirts of Bratislava. It will serve as a park-and-ride facility, allowing drivers to transfer to public transport for onward transit towards the city centre. The adjacent Cesta na Senec / Rožňavská Street is one of the main traffic routes into Bratislava.
“In parallel with the demolition of the building and redevelopment of the area, we are starting to work on the project documentation and then we will deal with the actual building of the parking facility, depending on the availability of finances,” Bratislava City Council announced, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
The Hotel Flóra was built in the 1970s as a temporary structure.
“The hotel was already in a state of disrepair and an expert opinion ruled out its reconstruction as economically ineffective,” the city said.
The objective of Bratislava's park-and-ride facilities is primarily to reduce the volume of individual vehicles driving into the city centre and surrounding residential zones by enabling visitors to park their cars close to public transport stops and continue their journeys by bus or tram.
“They [the car parks] are free of charge,” the city wrote.
