A proposed amendment to the act on state language, which would introduce stricter sanctions on incorrect use of the Slovak language, received government approval on March 11 and will now be submitted to parliament
The amendment would make incorrect use of the Slovak language subject to fines of up to €5,000. The Culture Ministry, which proposed the amendment, has said that the fines will address an increase in violations of the law on state language. According to the amendment, the ministry would evaluate the correctness of the text used on memorials and signs, the Sme daily reported. Sme
