KDH’s loss is gamblers’ gain at Tipos

TIPOS, the country’s largest bookmaker, handed out the largest winnings to people who bet that the KDH would receive under 10 percent support in the June 17 parliamentary election. The KDH gained only 8.31 percent.The biggest losers were those who had bet that the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) would gain more than 13 percent. It received only 8.79 percent.The highest amount won on a single bet was Sk100,940 (€2,647), while the most successful gambler garnered Sk219,340 from 15 separate bets.Between May 9 and the day before the vote, gamblers bet a total of Sk1,034,180 in 1,055 individual bets submitted to Tipos. The most successful bet was on Smer's winning the election, which pulled in only Sk98,000 because the party was at least 15 percent ahead in all opinion polls at the time the bet was placed.
