The national communications security system, as part of the NATO Global Communication System (NGCS), has shortcomings, according to the results of a CMX 12 Crisis Management Exercise conducted in November 2012 in which Slovakia participated. The CMX 12 exercise was prepared, coordinated and evaluated by NATO International Staff, which in Slovakia was made up of the Interior Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the Government Office and the Slovak Intelligence Service. The report on the CMX 12 results was acknowledged by the Government this week.
"It was the communications security system at the national level that proved to be less flexible, due to the fact that the transmission of data is possible only through the communications channel of the NGCS national system, which hasn't been implemented by all those taking part in the exercise," reads the report drafted by the Interior Ministry, as quoted by the TASR newswire. The system is designed to respond immediately to potential crisis situations. Therefore, the report also recommends implementing the aforementioned communications system at the Interior Ministry and Government Office, as the moment it is directly linked to the Defence Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Supreme Security Office.
Overall, the evaluation was positive, with the CMX 12 exercise demonstrating that Slovakia is capable of active and full participation in NATO Crisis Management, TASR wrote on January 27.
