One of the deputy speakers of parliament, pro-Russian Smer MP Ľuboš Blaha, has removed the EU flag from his office and stored the portrait of President Zuzana Čaputová in a wardrobe in his parliamentary office.
The deputy speaker placed the portrait of Che Guevara, a major communist figure in the 1956-59 Cuban Revolution, on the wall instead.
He shared these “minor” adjustments in a video on Telegram. The video has more than 15,000 views.
“Venceremos (We will win),” he added.
Blaha, who had his Facebook page cancelled last year, was also ordered by the court last year to stop spreading lies about the president.
In response to Blaha’s video, Christian Democratic Movement MPs decided to collect signatures to initiate a debate on the removal of Blaha as deputy speaker. Slovensko (form. OĽaNO) MPs will support a special session in an attempt to dismiss Blaha.
“He should never have become the deputy speaker of the parliament,” said ex-PM and Slovensko leader Igor Matovič. “It's a shame for the parliament that he is.”
