Hotter summers in Slovakia and a change in people's food habits have contributed to the rise of salmonella cases in Slovakia, hygienists claimed.

The number of salmonella infections has risen by 40 percent in the last five years, the Public Health Authority (ÚVZ) said, as reported by the Sme daily.
In 2014, a total of 4,379 salmonella cases were reported. But four years later, the figure to 7,222 cases of the infection.
Salmonella, a food-borne disease caused by salmonella bacteria, can be deadly. Practicing good hygiene, purchasing fresh products, and consuming well-cooked meals remain the best ways to avoid the illness, Sme wrote.
