Smer supporters happiest with post-election developments

THE SUPPORTERS of the ruling Smer party are the happiest with developments since the early general election in March 2012 in relative terms, a survey by the MVK polling agency has revealed.

A total of 56.1 percent of Smer voters have a positive outlook on developments over the past five years, MVK’s Pavel Haulík said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. Conversely, the survey found not a single supporter of the ethnic-Hungarian SMK party who is happy with what has taken place in Slovakia since 2012. It was carried out on a sample of 1,106 respondents between March 3 and 10.

The highest level of satisfaction when it came to opposition parties was observed among the voters of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) - 29.1 percent, followed by non-parliamentary NOVA – 20.1 percent; and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) – 18.1 percent. Next came the supporters of Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) – 15.6 percent; Most-Híd – 15.5 percent, the Slovak National Party (SNS) – 13.1 percent, the fledgling SKOK party – 12.5 percent, non-parliamentary Sieť – 11.7 percent and the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) – 7.3 percent.

On aggregate, 24.7 percent of people are happy with developments following the election – which is higher than the 20.5 percent of respondents in a survey from a year ago, midway through the current government’s term.

The dissatisfaction was expressed by 68.1 percent of those asked – down from the 73.7 percent measured a year ago. SMK voters were the most unhappy – 95.2 percent, followed by those of SDKÚ (85.2 percent) and Sieť (84.9 percent). Next came SNS voters on 84 percent, Most-Hid on 82.5 percent, SKOK on 81.2 percent, OĽaNO on 80.8 percent, KDH on 76.4 percent, NOVA on 66.3 percent and SaS on 65.8 percent.

In another poll by MVK, Slovaks named the most, giving the most serious and trustworthy politicians: Robert Fico(32 Percent), Andrej Kiska (25.9), Robert Kaliňák (18), Béla Bugár (13.1), Peter Pellegrini (8.8), Igor Matovič (7.9) Ján Figeľ (6.7). Radoslav Procházka (5.7), Miroslav Lajčák (5.5) and Daniel Lipšic (5.0).

Fico (28.4 percent) also ranked as the most “trouble-making politician”, followed by Igor Matovič (22.4), Richard Sulík (19.4), Robert Kaliňák (9.4), Pavol Paška (8.1), Ján Figeľ (8.1), Daniel Lipšic (8.0), Mikuláš Dzurinda (6.9), Pavol Frešo (5.4) and Béla Bugár (5.1).
