The first two F-16 Block 70 jets made by the US firm Lockheed Martin have been delivered to Slovakia.
The company announced it on its website on Wednesday, January 10.
“The delivery of the first two F-16 Block 70 jets to Slovakia signifies a crucial starting point in bolstering the country’s defence capabilities,” Lockheed Martin’s vice president and general manager of the Integrated Fighter Group, OJ Sanchez, said in a press release.
Until now, Slovakia’s airspace has been protected by neighbouring countries, because of the country’s decision to send its grounded 13 Soviet-era MiG-29 jets to Ukraine last year.
