Lintner unsuccessfully ran in the bid for president of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH), against the incumbent, Igor Nemeček. Both Lintner and former as well as current hockey players did not hide their disappointment regarding the course of the election, however, calling it unfair.

Lintner did not hide the fact that his decision has been influenced by the Extra-league being independent from the SZĽH, the Sme daily wrote on August 8. “We want to jointly embark on an exiting path towards re-constructing our top hockey league,” Lintner said.
The hockey player from Trenčín, aged 37, may be the saviour for the ailing Slovak Extra-league which faces economic problems, players leaving to go abroad, and half-empty stadiums, according to Sme.
