An unused school building in a village under the Low Tatras mountain range now has an unlikely new use.
Thanks to talented artists from Banská Bystrica's Centre for Independent Visual Arts - Umno, visitors to the village of Nemecká in Brezno district – specifically, its Zámostie district – will find themselves on the fictional moon Pandora, as depicted in the hugely popular science fiction film Avatar.
The pilot part of the project focuses on recreating scenes and storylines from the film.
That is far from all. The water mill in nearby Predajná has also become more attractive.
"In the case of the unused municipal school, the room, which is the largest in area, first underwent extensive reconstruction. From the point of view of time and money, its restoration was the most demanding. It lasted from June to December. It included cleaning the premises, thematic painting and decoration of the walls, up to the placement of mannequins and the installation of everything necessary to enhance the fairy-tale atmosphere," explained Petra Ridzoňová Hlásniková, executive director of the Regional Tourism Organization (OOCR) Horehronie Region.
She pointed out that as part of the implementation of the project, which is divided into several stages, mannequins will also be added outdoors.
