The seventh parliamentary elections in Slovakia since 1989 will be held on Saturday, June 12, announced the country’s Speaker of Parliament, Pavol Paška, on February 1, the SITA newswire reported. Paška said he had already sent the announcement for publication in the Collection of Laws.
“These will be the seventh democratic elections here since the breakthrough year of 1989,” said Paška at a news conference. He is hoping for the highest possible turnout.
A high number of voters will strengthen the legitimacy of the election outcome, he said while calling on political parties to behave fairly during their election campaigns. He told SITA that he thinks that they should first of all present values and comprehensible programs with comprehensible solutions so that people can vote based on experience and value orientation. He also urged the media to focus on highly objective reporting during the campaign. SITA
