THE CABINET has still not dealt with the draft of the new long-term Energy Policy of the Slovak Republic, although the Economy Ministry has submitted the material to the Cabinet Office already in late May. The Economy Ministry sees the political situation between Ukraine and Russia as responsible for the delay in approving the new energy policy.
“The draft Energy Policy additionally considers some questions of the security of deliveries of energy raw materials to Slovakia,” the ministry informed the web portal vEnergetike.sk in early September. According to the Economy Ministry, the cabinet should discuss its energy policy soon.
The Energy Policy, which defines the main goals and priorities of the energy sector up to 2035 and with an outlook to 2050, envisages, among others, the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice. It furthermore counts on the project of a hydropower station Sereď on the Váh River and the construction of a pumped-storage hydropower plant on the Ipeľ River, the SITA newswire wrote.
The draft material is no longer based on subsidising electricity generated from renewable energy sources through higher feed-in tariffs after 2020.
“Those types of renewable sources that will be preferred do not show fluctuation of production and whose sale price will be the closest to the market price,” reads the draft strategy.
The Economy Ministry has also included in the draft the crude oil pipeline project connecting refineries in Bratislava and in Schwechat near Vienna, in Austria. According to the draft energy policy, a strategic project is the reconstruction of the crude oil pipeline Adria, too.
Within the gas sector Slovakia does not have any new large plans. The ministry has listed among those biggest and most important projects of building interconnectors between natural gas pipelines between Slovakia and Hungary and Slovakia and Poland, but these are already known projects in various phases of progress.
