Most citizens have a client relationship with one bank only, and more than 80 percent of Slovak bank clients hold an account with one of only three major financial institutions - Slovenská Sporiteľňa, VÚB Banka and Tatra Banka.

Personal accounts are the most common product and have also seen the most dynamic growth over the past 10 years.

While only 59 percent of Slovaks had such an account in 2003, the figure is now 80 percent.
