Bratislava airport receives permit, launches long-haul flights to far-flung resorts

From Tuesday, people can fly from Bratislava airport to Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Vietnam.

Milan Rastislav Štefánik Airport in Bratislava has received permission from the Transport Office to operate wide-body aircraft for long-haul flights.

It is thus possible to fly to far-flung destinations directly from Bratislava, writes the TASR news agency.

Bratislava airport considers the launch of long-haul flights an historic milestone. With this permit, the airport can operate aircraft such as Airbus A350-900, Airbus A330 and Boeing B787.

"This opens the door to other intercontinental destinations," said Dušan Keketi, general director of Bratislava airport.

Off to Vietnam

From Tuesday, the Airbus A350-900 long-haul aircraft started flying from Bratislava airport to Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Vietnam.

These charter flights will fly three times a week, on Tuesdays to the Cuban destination of Santa Clara, on Wednesdays to the Dominican destination of Punta Cana and on Thursdays to the Vietnamese peninsula of Phu Quoc.

Tour operators Fischer and Kartago Tours offer these holidays.

The Airbus A350-900 has a capacity of 432 passengers. From Vienna, it is often older Boeing 767-300 planes that take passengers to far-flung countries.
