When she was a little girl, Dana Miňová wanted to do anything but follow in the footsteps of her mother, a teacher.

Instead, she dreamt of becoming a paediatric oncologist. However, she was not admitted to medical school, and eventually chose Comenius University’s Faculty of Arts, where she stayed on to study for a PhD. Shortly before defending her thesis, she received a phone call that put her onto a career track in human resources.

“I was sitting in my former teacher’s chair, who was inviting me for a job interview,” recalls Miňová, chief human resources officer at MH Teplárenský Holding (MHTH), a state-owned company created by the merger of six heating plants.

She was offered the job and three months later moved into a management position. As she recalls, this led to a detour into her mother’s profession.

“Even though I’m not a teacher, I’m dealing with an education-related agenda. This is close to my heart, also through my mum,” said Miňová, winner of the HRLeader award for 2023, which is granted by Maxman Consultants to the most inspiring personalities in HR.
