Driving 160 km/h on Slovak highways?

The maximum permitted speeds on roads in Slovakia:

- inside towns and villages – 50 km/hour

- outside towns and villages – 90 km/hour

- on highways and dual carriageways – 130 km/hour

Those who would love to see higher speed limits on Slovak highways will probably need to wait a bit longer. The National Highway Company (NDS) has already received an analysis which does not recommend an increase in the maximum speed limit from 130 to 160 km/hour on two chosen sections of the D1 highway from Lúky to Rakoľuby (10.3 km), and from Vrtižer to Bytča (9 km). Neither of these two sections meets the basic technical conditions to increase the maximum speed and making the required adjustments as well as posting new road signs would be too expensive, the Sme daily wrote in mid April. However, the final decision is in the hands of the Transport Ministry.
