THE ACTIVITIES of one of the oldest foundations in Slovakia, Ekopolis Foundation, has been acknowledged at an international level. The jury for the Landscape Award of the Council of Europe, part of the Steering Committee for Cultural Heritage and Landscape, granted special mention to the foundation for its 'Grant programmes for local communities to shape their surroundings into a place where they are happy to live'.
“I am very glad that our help to local communities has won praise from the Council of Europe’s jury,” said Peter Medveď, the foundation’s director, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “It is a great encouragement to us and proof that local projects, often based on enthusiasm and work by volunteers, have a real impact on the appearance of our country and earn good recognition for us in Europe.”
The Ekopolis Foundation, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, won the Award for the Slovak Republic last year for its grant programme and it then advanced to the Council of Europe competition this year.
