This stems from an addendum to the higher-level collective agreement signed on January 25 between Emil Machyna, head of OZ KOVO trade unions association, and Alexej Beljajev, head of the Mechanical Engineering Association.

“It is higher-level collective agreement, so it will serve as a basis for the further negotiations over collective agreements in companies,” Machyna said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.

The salaries in firms may be even higher, he added.

“We want to increase them by a further 1.5 percent, so our recommendation for this year is that the salaries in industry, which we represent, will increase by at least 4 percent,” Machyna continued, as quoted by SITA.

Since prices in Slovakia are not increasing, the rise in nominal wages will result in an increase in real wages as well. The addendum will concern some 80,000-120,000 employees, according to Machyna.

“We negotiated the best possibility,” Beljajev said, as quoted by SITA, adding that his association tries to set clear rules and decrease the possibility of problems among individual companies.
