Employment in Slovakia increases compared to eurozone average

The number of people employed in the eurozone in the last quarter of 2016 compared to the previous quarter increased by 0.3 percent, but Slovakia fared even better in this period of time.

Across the 28-member European Union, it grew by 0.2 percent.

In Slovakia, the number of employees in the last three months of the previous year grew by 0.6 quarter-on-quarter and by 2.6 percent against the same period of 2015.

For the whole of last year, employment in the eurozone rose by 1.3 percent and across the EU by 1.2 percent, SITA quoted the EU’s statistics office, Eurostat. Eurostat estimates that the number of employed persons in the EU in the fourth quarter amounted to 232.9 million, which was an historic record.

Year-on-year, the employment in the eurozone swelled by 1.1 percent between October and December; and throughout the EU by 1 percent, Eurostat reported on March 15.
