Heat pumps are among the most energy-efficient heating devices, so it is little surprise that the hikes in energy prices following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine have led to increased demand for them in many countries, including Slovakia.
With this rising demand has come a wave of new investments in Slovakia, as existing pump manufacturers expand their production and firms from western Europe look for locations to set up new production facilities.
“Slovakia continues to confirm itself as highly attractive for companies producing modern and sustainable heating technology, heat pumps, and other related components,” the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) noted in October 2023 when Dutch heat pump manufacturer BDR Thermea officially applied for state investment aid.

Heat pump producers extend their production facilities
In 2022, 3 million heat pumps were sold in Europe – a rise of 39 percent on the previous year, according to the European Heat Pump Association. Market observers expect strong growth in demand from Germany following a recent change in legislation that means newly installed heating systems in new housing developments will have to run on at least 65 percent renewable energy from January 2024, making the pumps an attractive option in such buildings, Markus Halt, spokesperson of the Slovak-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK Slowakei) told The Slovak Spectator.
